My work is about interpreting the landscape. It is also about memory. My feelings about nature are visceral. I am constantly striving to reflect the serenity, freedom, and sense of security that I feel when I am outside and alone.
I have taught myself large format photography and am building my own pinhole cameras and shooting paper negatives and traditional film in order to best interpret what exists in my imagination. I am currently working on a project based in the New Jersey Meadowlands. Growing up in the 70's and 80's, I had a fantasy about living there, despite the dangerous and filthy nature of the area. I returned to attempt to understand my attraction to it, and to visually express my feelings of security around it.
I photograph "fringe" places- areas that are not inhabited by people but that are rife with evidence of them, as well as places from my childhood that have stayed with me and evolved into strange, monochrome memories.
Thank you for your interest.
